Should pupils read out loudly in class, or not?
In a 7-page paper published by Forrin and MacLeod (2017), the researchers discuss the benefits to memory when saying words aloud rather than reading them silently.
I've used opportunities for silent reading throughout my entire teaching career: to help manage behaviour and help pupils to focus.
On the other hand, I've also asked a pupil to read loudly to the rest of the class. This research has made me consider if there is a benefit to all pupils reading aloud together!
