Do teachers, as learners, reflect their students’ behaviour?
Teacher professionalism is something I have been thinking about as I experience working with more and more schools and colleges across the country.
I have sat in 100s of teacher training sessions. Today, I have led 1,000s.
Do we, as teachers, unconsciously mirror the behaviour we expect from our students? In this regard, I am talking explicitly about professional development scenarios. For example:
- Asking the guest speaker a loaded question = "How much were you paid?" rather than anything about pedagogy
- Ignoring the content and browsing on a laptop/mobile
