Will the New Year bring in new reforms from Oftsed, and hope for teachers?

Ofsted inspections, which are perceived as exhausting, stressful and demoralising by teachers, do not capture differences in school quality for students’ outcomes.

Using the melody from Auld Lang Syne (or, ‘times gone by’), I have adapted the lyrics for Ofsted inspections.

Should Ofsted inspections be forgot,
and never thought at school?
Should Ofsted inspections be forgot,
and [current HMCI] too?

Chorus:
For all inspectorates, my dear,
for all inspectorates.
We’ll show the data and progress yet,
for all inspectorates!

We’ve paid for SEF and SIP support,
from September until the morning comes,
But Gove’s between us; “enemy” he roared.
Sing, all inspectorates!

(Chorus repeat)

And there’s the lesson, my trusted plan,
and here’s the data too.
And we’ll talk a good intervention plan,
for all inspectorates!

(Chorus repeat)

And surely you’ll judged by us,
and surely I’ll be too!
We’ll show the data and progress yet,
for all inspectorates!

(Chorus repeat last time)

Ofsted said it is also true that, in places, inspection has not made enough difference!
