How does writing a blog improve your own knowledge?

When I started this blog in 2007, I never knew it would reach 17 million readers …

Of course, it’s not all been easy to sustain, with ‘life getting in the way’, switching from an education hobby to a business was never going to be smooth. There’s so much I never knew, from data protection to tax and customer service to plugins and widgets!

However, writing so much content and using lots of refined strategies to work smarter, I’m writing more and more content. Occasionally, I stop to put this all into one place, like in this blog, or in a book!

As I mentioned in a recent post, I’ve been working on a new book, which is now available. It’s about how I’ve discovered cognitive science throughout my career as a teacher, and why it has transformed my pedagogy in the classroom. My reasons for doing so are outlined below.

Why share teaching ideas?

Do you want to be a better teacher? Every teacher will say ‘yes’.

But how many want to tweak their pedagogy?

How many teachers want to have a deeper understanding of how we learn?

Not everyone does, but some teachers do.

I believe that all teachers want to be top of their game.

The difficulty is time and ‘life getting in the way’ of personal development.

For teachers who find the time, they learn more about how to help students go beyond just remembering, moving beyond their subject knowledge.

It begins with refining pedagogical approaches.

It’s taken me 30 years to learn where teachers should focus their efforts.

In my new book, I help teachers learn this even quicker, capturing everything I’ve learned in one place.

I’ve searched for years to understand what teachers need, and using the power of this website, I’ve since observed analytical data to understand what teachers do need, and when.

I’ve worked with thousands of teachers; trust me I know. What teachers need is theory made simple.

Of course, I also recognise this is a sales pitch, but I’ve also learned that to sell is to be human.

If you don’t know me or trust me, you are unlikely to have read this far, or part with any investment. It starts with 1) like 2) know 3) trust and 4) buy.

So, if you like me or TT content, and you know of this website and trust to use my resources, you are one step closer to purchasing the book. I firmly believe it will change how you think and teach!

To do this requires radical changes to what you already do, but you don’t need my book to do that.

It starts off by reducing how you multi-task and learning to work slower – a real challenge for all teachers working in busy classroom spaces.

To celebrate my new book and the 17 million readers milestone, I’m giving away copies of the book to newsletter readers. I’ve made the decision not to give copies away on social media. I’m turning inward to my network of teachers who have been reading my ideas ‘behind the scenes’.

If you would like a chance to win a free copy, simply subscribe to my newsletter. Alternatively, you can just purchase the book directly or lurk online to see what everyone is saying …
