One of the greatest challenges all schools must face is meeting the needs of every individual child. When I conducted my Just Great Teaching research (2019), without question the section on student mental health and SEND were the toughest to complete.

Supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is our greatest responsibility within education, and also one of the most difficult in my experience. I firmly believe we should measure the success of a school in terms of how it supports its most vulnerable students to complete their education – we have a long way to go before this vision is commonplace.
