Description

Desirable Difficulties is a phrase to describe research conducted by Robert and Elizabeth Bjork (1992).

It made clear the importance of an old distinction between performance, the ability of learners to produce a correct answer or a problem-solving procedure during the teaching process, and learning, as measured by the ability to produce that answer or procedure sometime later, after the teaching process, in contexts where it is needed. The challenge is to change students’ learning habits.
