Description
Teaching and learning can easily become over complicated. There are thousands of ideas and approaches, but what do the most popular usually have in common? Modelling is one of Barak Rosenshine’s 17 Principles of Effective Instruction. It is a natural, go-to strategy for teachers.
In summary, all teachers should provide students with a daily review of previous learning. New content should be delivered in small chunks, with teachers asking plenty of questions to check their understanding of pupils. Pupils should be provided with work examples and teachers should model and show them ‘how’, by guiding them through their practice, as opposed to allowing them to explore or embed errors – particularly when learning new concepts.
