What are the key things a SENCO must do throughout the year?
Dear overwhelmed Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators: Have you ever wanted a definitive list of what to do and when to do it throughout the entire year? Well, you’re in luck!
The SENCO Wall Chart Planner
This chart lays out everything a primary or secondary SENCO needs to do and at what point throughout the entire year. Print it out and stick it up on your wall, and most importantly, show it to your line manager so they can visualise just how much work you have to do. Use it to help you map out your time and stop lurching from one thing to another.
Why is it useful?
One of the best things about the wall chart is that it commits lots of time to focus on specific cohorts, year groups, liaising with middle and senior leadership and really putting you in the driving seat of whole-school SEN.
Who is it for?
SENCOs, INCOS, heads and line managers of inclusion.
How do I use it?
- Print it out, stick it up on your wall, cry, and have a cup of tea.
- Brush yourself down, take a deep breath and start copying down some of the key dates into your personal calendar.
- Show it to your line manager and discuss the different parts of your role and their implications across the school.
- Come back to the wall chart every other week.
