‘Great teaching isn’t complicated, it’s about getting the simple things right.’
says @TeacherToolkit in a recent interview.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting @SuruthiBala from @OptimusEd who came to pick my brains at Greig City Academy. In this short article, I discuss driving innovation, raising standards and why it is important to encourage all teachers to become researchers.
I also question great teaching and highlight that there is no single-way to become a great teacher. That a dogmatic ideology, leader or any book certainly won’t give you the answers! What’s required for every teacher, is an ‘openness to drive improvement.’

#GrowEx:
I am thrilled to announce that I will be speaking at Optimus Education’s inaugural Growing Excellence in Learning and Teaching event this November 2014. This conference is relevant because it will gather colleagues together to discuss excellent learning and teaching and what it may look like in the immediate future.
With the concept of the ‘Outstanding lesson’ now gone (in my opinion), it’s time to engage with the latest research and cascade evidence-based practice for effective learning and teaching into classrooms throughout our schools.
Download the full GrowEx programme here. and come and hear John Tomsett, Debra Kidd, Shaun Allison, Zoe Elder, Stephen Tierney and of course, yours truly, @TeacherToolkit.
