Description

Social stories are a simple, structured way to help children understand situations that feel confusing, overwhelming, or unpredictable. They are particularly useful for pupils with SEND, including autism, speech and language needs, and SEMH, but they benefit any child who needs clearer guidance around expectations and social understanding.

A social story is not a behaviour script or a consequence tool. It is a teaching tool.

Its purpose is to build understanding, reduce anxiety, and help children feel more confident about what is expected of them. When used well, social stories can prevent difficulties rather than respond to them after they happen.
