Do your students need impartial careers information, advice and guidance?

The U.K.’s biggest, best and most hands-on skills and careers event is returning to the NEC Birmingham on the 21st -23rd November. Free to attend, WorldSkills U.K. LIVE is packed with expert careers advice, an amazing range of national employers and incredible ‘have-a-go’ activities.

What is WorldSkills U.K.?

This event is suitable for students from year 7 upwards and of all backgrounds and abilities, WorldSkills U.K. LIVE showcases a full range of industry sectors, careers and training pathways, including health, hospitality and lifestyle, to construction, engineering and business.

When and where?

Taking place on 21–23 November 2019 at the NEC Birmingham, WorldSkills UK LIVE is free to attend and crammed full of careers advice, tips for building a strong mental attitude and amazing activities for students – think of it as a ‘one-stop shop’ for careers advice, with both multi-national and local companies, training organisations, colleges and universities.

What can students expect?

Careers advice hubs will be on hand for students to meet expert advisers from the National Careers Service and the National Apprenticeship Service. There will even be opportunities to apply for both live and future apprenticeship positions or vacancies.

This year’s event features hundreds of exhibitors such as BMW Group U.K., the Royal Navy, Huawei Technologies, Babcock International Group and Teesside University. Your students will be able to take the opportunity to speak to industry experts and explore potential routes into the world of work, academia or training.

The spotlight stage will showcase current apprentices and those working for some of the world’s most famous brands and inspire students to potentially try out a skills path that they had not thought of before:

  • ‘Your future’ will specialise in industry insights and career options
  • ‘Top influencers’ will give students an insider’s view from successful professionals in many fields
  • ‘Performance’ will inspire students to explore career opportunities within the creative arts

WorldSkills U.K. LIVE gives visitors a chance to watch demonstrations of what it takes to work in different skills to a high level. For example, the ‘What is…Forensic Science?’ demonstration will showcase the skills and techniques needed to be a successful crime scene investigator! The event is underpinned by lesson plans and videos which will help you prepare students for both for the event itself and aid day-to-day in-school careers activities and meet the Gatsby Benchmarks. There are also professional development opportunities and networking in the teacher hub area.
