Questioning is a key tool for teachers. Through questioning, teachers can gain an insight into what pupils know; this gives teachers vital clues for where to take the teaching next. It is an essential assessment strategy. Although questioning comes naturally to teachers, teachers may find themselves falling into traps that inhibit learning. I’m a huge fan of planning key questions to ask, plus having a wide range of questioning strategies to hold students to account.
