From 1st September 2021

The Toolkit membership is being locked down for 24 months until September 2023.

Ross McGill LogoSince launching The Toolkit membership on 1st July 2020, I’ve been flattered by the number of teachers and schools that have signed up to the membership service. Operation still largely happens in my home office, and without a large team around me, much of what has been implemented has evolved organically as demand has increased.

From what was just a simple one membership subscription, schools and colleges started to ask for multiple teacher logins, BACS payment transfers, invoices and annual payments options. I’m pleased to have adapted to the needs of members (eventually).

One year on, I am confident that the resources have remained of high quality.

I know that they need to be a little more bespoke to suit new teachers, experienced teachers and school leaders. I promise this will happen over time, but right now my focus is on ensuring that there is a monthly production and content that is relevant, pragmatic and useful for your own professional learning.

To continue this and upscale, I am proposing a small increase in costs.

This change will allow me to bring in one or two new team members to help with all your login and download queries, as well as the technical updates and support I need to put in place to ensure the website works more efficiently. In order for me to focus on the strategy and this content, I need other people to take on these tasks for me so I can focus on supporting you with ideas and materials. This requires investment and development on the website.

Some of you may or may not know that the website is now 13 years old.

The Toolkit has always been part of my website's long-term plans, which has been a very long journey in terms of data protection, legal and privacy terms, as well as website research and development on my part. Much of the income generated has been used to build the website.

I’m proud of what the website offers teachers around the world. I’m flattered you use my resources!

I knew when I launched the resource at £1 per month, it was an unbelievable offer.  I also knew that it wasn’t sustainable, yet I am proud of what I’ve managed to offer you over the last 12 months and I want to keep the membership sustainable, high-quality and eventually, personalised.

What's new?

The Toolkit MembershipOne of the features I have avoided for 13 years is requiring anyone to have a login to access blog post content. As you will know, the resources section of the website already requires readers to login to be able to download a resource at check out.  This has been a function on the website for 3 years. This contact point allows me to tailor content for you via my newsletter and meet your needs rather than hoping for the best. I will continue to work hard on this.

From 1st September 2021, your login will now enable you to read content written exclusively for you, whilst the rest of the world will be locked out. My aim is to publish two research-informed articles once a month; these articles will be made public one month later.

Secondly, other popular articles will be available free to read, but will require all users to log in to read it; these will be available to the public and to you as a member. The final feature is to keep resources and blog posts open access to anyone with or without a login - this content will vary.

In summary:

  1. Members-only reading - login required; public one month later.
  2. Popular reading materials - login required by all
  3. Open-access reading material - no login required by all; including sponsored

Loyalty Points

As a result of launching the membership, a relatively new feature was rewarding members with loyalty points for each transaction they completed. From 1st September 2021, all members will automatically receive at least 40 points each month they remain a member.

Refer a friend

When you refer a new member to sign up, you will receive 100 points to use on the website. This can be redeemed to purchase any copy of my teaching books.
