How can teachers and schools gain access to the professional development they need?

Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of working with CENTURY Tech on their new continuing professional development (CPD) training programme, smarterCPD. I was even given an opportunity to meet and talk with Marwan Mohammad Ali Hamadé, Minister of Education for Lebanon.

The CPD service will allow any teacher to access high quality, CPD accredited training material for free. Some of the courses (safeguarding and eSafety) have been produced in association with the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL).

Empower teachers with CPD

smarterCPD has been designed to overcome these barriers. The courses on the platform are free for teachers and can be accessed online, anywhere and at any time. You’ll know from my website how dedicated I am to giving teachers meaningful, resources that enable them to empower their teaching; I was excited by the opportunity to collaborate with CENTURY Tech on their new venture.

Both Teacher Toolkit and CENTURY Tech believe that for teachers to maximise their impact in the classroom, they should all be empowered through CPD. We also understand that CPD can be financially challenging for schools and that finding time to do it can be problematic.

Courses to help you navigate the digital world

The courses range from Digital Safety to Cognitive Neuroscience – allowing teachers to learn the science behind effective education and get equipped with essential tools for navigating an increasingly digital world. Each course is delivered in short, digestible nuggets featuring insights from a range of industry experts.

My contribution is a course titled Teacher Toolkit: Social Media for Teachers. In the course, I explain how social media can improve teachers’ practice and allow them to connect with wider communities that can further enhance teaching and learning. I have ten years of using social media professionally which is now informing my doctoral studies. If you’re already a fan of Teacher Toolkit, or just looking to expand your social media expertise, you’ll find a wealth of useful tips. For example, how can you optimise your media presence using the ‘Three C’s’ as a strategy: content, clarity, and consistency?

For the answer to this and much more, head to smarterCPD.org, and spread the word! I hope you find the programme as enriching to use as it was to create. Free online resources for teachers – it’s a win-win!
