- It had to happen and it has…children can’t hold a pencil because they are so used to playing on iPads which means their finger muscles aren’t developing. Too much tech and excessive use of tablets is having a detrimental influence on children’s development.
- Do you take happiness seriously? Cherry Coombe is Britian’s first university wellbeing ‘tsar’ whose role is to “help improve the working and learning environment” by promoting mental well-being. Working at the University of Buckingham, Cherry said her aim is to ensure that “absolutely everyone in the university has a happiness badge.”
- What are schools banning now? Well, if you have a haircut called “Meet you at McDonalds” then you’re barred, at least in some schools.
- Budget cuts might be crippling schools but some universities are spending money on the sublime and ridiculous. An investigation into expense claims has revealed that the University of Surrey spent more than £1,600 of public money on relocating a vice-chancellor’s pet dog from Australia to Britain. Nice work if you can get it! Try telling this to the thousands of academic staff striking over planned cuts to pensions.
