Who knew I could speak Welsh?

On 21st June 2017, I attended the National Digital Learning Event in Swansea, organised by the Welsh government. I had the pleasure of running two workshops: 10 Twitter Tips for Classrooms, Teachers and Schools. You can download my presentation below.

ICT Strategy:

What was striking about the event, is that it is clear the Welsh have a clear digital strategy for education. This is worlds apart from what we have England, something which has fallen off our education radar post-2010 when quangos such as BECTA were closed – and with them, their funding, resources and information to support teachers and schools.

The Welsh are years ahead!

Kirsty Williams AM, Cabinet Secretary for Education said in a statement of 16 June 2017:

“… my priority as Cabinet Secretary for Education is to raise the aspirations in Wales for all children and young people, broadening horizons and developing ambition so that all can achieve. Today I am formally launching the first part of that new curriculum to be made available, the Digital Competence Framework (DCF) which focuses on developing digital skills that are useful in everyday life and transferable to the world of work.

The Liberty Stadium, home of Swansea Football Club was a great conference location – considering is was 30C outside too!

Social Media Tips for Teachers:

I had the pleasure of sharing my Twitter wisdom with two small groups of teachers. In the workshop, I share my social media journey, my secrets and elaborate on how to make social media work for you as a professional and for you as a school. It was strange – yet reminiscent of my childhood in Wales – to see my resources translated into Welsh.

It was great to receive feedback on Twitter after the event.
