Barefoot support primary teachers across the UK with free workshops and resources, which bring to life the subject of computational thinking in cross-curricular and engaging ways.
Teaching the next generation
Tech-literacy is essential and as a teacher, you play an instrumental role in ensuring that the next generation is fully equipped with the skills to become creators of technology, not just passive users. A study from British Telecom and Ipsos MORI suggests:
- 78% of UK primary teachers believe tech-literacy is as important as reading and writing.
- 97% of them believe it’s their responsibility to prepare children for a digital world.
- However, only 25% agree they’re equipped to do so.
Teachers who have accessed Barefoot resources are more confident than their peers, with 84% understanding computational thinking, compared with 57% overall. Supported by the Department for Education, BT and Computing at School, all the resources are aligned to all UK curricula, including engaging activities for SEN pupils.
There are two types of free resources on the website – resources for teachers to use to teach themselves how to code and resources to use to teach children in the classroom – this is so useful, because so many teachers don’t feel confident with their own technology literacy, let alone that of their children.” @TeacherToolkit
