How much money does your school stand to lose?

With the election fast approaching, the topic of budgets and more importantly budget cuts, are at the forefront of concerns. Amongst those with a keen eye on the parties’ manifestos, are teachers and parents as cuts to education becomes an ongoing topic of conversation.

A video recently released by Britain’s National Union of Teachers (NUT) has revealed the full-scale of possible cuts to local schools in England. The NUT states that 18,329 schools are facing more cuts under the current government, with more than 100 schools losing over £1 million.

To date, the video has been viewed more than 4 million times on Facebook, with commenter’s labelling the cuts as ‘despicable’.

How will your school be affected?

Accompanying the video is the relaunch of School Cuts, a website where users input their town or postcode to view what the three main political parties’ education funding pledges mean for their local schools. Not only does the website tell you the overall budgets, but it breaks down how this affects individual students.

Kevin Courtney, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union, said:

This election has to be in part, a vote for education in which candidates are held to account for their parties’ manifesto promises on school funding. Every parent, teacher and school staff member knows the debilitating effect, a chronic lack of money has for the quality and type of education schools can give to children and young people.
